Cats have long been guardians of thresholds—sacred to Bastet in Egypt, feared as shape-shifters in Celtic highlands, and honored as omens of good fortune in Japan. This piece carries that liminal power: the watchful wisdom of a cat who moves between shadow and light.
The stones echo the symbolism they’ve long carried in folklore and tradition. Golden obsidian is said to shield against negativity, while smoky quartz is thought to ground and steady. Clear quartz has been regarded as a stone of clarity, and black spinel is believed to bring resilience and protective strength. Prasiolite, sometimes called green amethyst, is associated with renewal and fresh beginnings. Together they create a piece that speaks to intuition, transformation, and balance—an adornment for those who walk with mystery and grace.
The focal of this piece is an incredible artisan ceramic cat in a light gray/green glaze. I brought out this color with velvety golden obsidian faceted cubes which I paired with 16/0 gold seed beads, faceted smoky quartz, carved quartz, and some heavenly praisolite. Tiny accents around the focal and clasp also feature black spinel.
This is a mixed metal piece. The bail on the cat is steel accented with sterling silver. The crimps are gold fill. The clasp… oh, the clasp. I gasped when I saw it with the necklace. The clasp is an antique gold plated Tierracast pewter button and features a crystal set in the center.
This necklace is approximately 18” long. The focal hangs down 1 ¾”.
