This mixed media piece was quite the process. First I sketched out a design on the 8x10 stretched canvas, and then I sculpted the waves, mermaid outline, and moon out of paperclay directly onto the canvas. Then it was time to give it a base coat of paint for the dark undertones. Then came mixing many
different shades of blue and painting the scene. The next step was (faux) gold leaf. Finally, the part you’ve been waiting for: the gems. Don’t gasp when I say this next part, but I crushed up a bunch of your favorite gems to make this gorgeous piece. I couldn’t even tell you what all is inside it, but let’s try. There are opals, turquoise, chrysocolla, apatite, spinel, sunstone, carnelian, and lots of other magical gems! After the addition of the gems, this piece was given two coats of sealant and signed.
There is not currently a hook on the back for hanging. I will add this or a wire upon purchase; just let me know your preference.
This is a one of a kind original. Isn’t she gorgeous? It is painted on all the edges, and the sculpting continues on two.
