I’m just loving the meditative practice of creating malas! This mala was hand knotted on taupe silk cord with a knot in between each of the 108 beads! I combined stunningly silky, 8mm Eagle Eye rounds, 7x8mm art deco cut botswana agate, 8mm golden obsidian, and 8mm chocolate moonstone rounds. The center (guru bead) is a 33x52mm beautiful agate. It is reminiscent of Botswana Agate, but I am not 100% sure that it is. The Guru bead typically sits at the center of the mala, the area closest to your heart. Some believe that positive energy associated with your mala is stored here.
For many, a mala can simply be a physical reminder of positive intentions and for others it can be a meditation tool often used within religious practices. There is no one definition or correct meaning as to what a mala is, it is up to each individual to determine what meaning their mala holds for them. I also love to create my malas without metal components, so they are the perfect piece for someone with metal allergies! They’re also a great piece for someone with limited hand mobility as they are so long that a clasp is not required! They can be worn doubled too.
This mala is is about 40” long. The center hangs down 3.75” at its longest point. This mala weighs 107.15 grams
